What is nutritional therapy?
Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based approach to maximising one’s health potential though individually formulated nutritional and lifestyle changes. It utilises the principles of “functional medicine” by seeing the body as a whole, while seeking the root cause of health concerns rather than simply treating the symptoms.
What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine is a way of practising healthcare which sees the body “wholistically,” i.e. as a whole, integrated system rather than separating it into different organs. The focus is on identifying the root causes of ill health rather than its symptoms, and using lifestyle changes (especially diet and nutrition, sleep, exercise and relaxation) as central to recovery. Functional medicine is evidence-based, and complements rather than contradicts conventional medicine, particularly for chronic disease.
Do you use laboratory testing?
If necessary, I may suggest that you have laboratory tests carried out to identify or rule out any causes of imbalance, an example may be ordering a stool test. If a test is required, you will be informed of any additional costs before ordering. I will ask your GP to carry out any applicable tests where possible to save expense.
Can you recommend/prescribe supplements?
I may recommend supplements if they are likely to be effective, alongside dietary manipulation. Once again, any additional costs will be made clear to you at your consultation. Wherever possible I like to use the healing powers of whole foods.
Do you provide information aside from nutrition?
There may be occasions when I feel that assistance from another professional therapist may be useful either to continue your journey towards optimal health or as a complementary therapy. Examples include:
-
Yoga Teachers for stress relief;
-
Psychologists for dealing with the emotional aspect of disordered eating;
-
Cranial osteopaths for relaxation.
I will refer you on to a professional specialist in your area and they will continue your care confidentially.
How do you take payment?
Payment for nutritional therapy consultations are due in full 48 hours prior to the appointment or upon booking if less than 48 hours until appointment time. Failure to cancel an appointment you cannot make with less than 48 hours’ notice incurs a 50% charge. All appointment bookings are final and non-transferable. Health insurance is accepted, please mention at time of booking to check validity.
